Q: My family physician has referred me to your practice. Will he or she still be part of my treatment team?

A: Absolutely. Our role is not to replace your primary care physician (PCP), but to serve as a highly specialized extension of his or her care. Fortunately, much of the time we’re able to rule out cardiac problems through our testing procedures. In the event you do require further testing or intervention, your primary care physician will be continually updated and consulted regarding your treatment.

Q: How can I find out if my cardiac care is covered by insurance?

A: Any questions or concerns about your insurance coverage and payment options should be addressed to our billing department at (207) 947-1675. For your peace of mind, we encourage you to call before your first visit.

Q: My insurance requires a co-payment. When do I pay?

A: It is customary to render your co-payment at the time of service. Northeast Cardiology Associates accepts Visa, MasterCard and Discover, as well as cash or personal check. In case of hardship, we will be happy to work with you to set up a mutually acceptable payment plan.

Q: I’m scheduled for an appointment at Northeast Cardiology Associates, but I need to change it. Who should I call?

A: Call our Bangor scheduling line at (207) 262-0108. Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 6:00pm.

Q: I’m having an exercise stress test. What should I wear?

A: Patients having an exercise stress test should bring or wear comfortable clothing such as shorts or sweatpants, and rubber soled shoes or sneakers, as they will likely work up a sweat during the test. The test, however, is only to accelerate your heartbeat, and not to test your fitness or physical abilities.

Q: How long will my appointment take?

A: The average time at our office is about 90 minutes. If your time schedule is of concern, we encourage you to call for a realistic timeframe for your particular test or procedure. Please be assured that our staff and physicians will work diligently to see to it that you are not kept waiting, and that you have plenty of time to have your questions answered. After checking in with the receptionist, if you wait longer than 15 minutes, please check back with the receptionist.

Q: When will I know test results?

A: When it comes to cardiology testing, "no news is good news." If any test results are of serious concern, your primary physician will be notified as soon as the results are available. Otherwise, your referring physician should receive the test results within ten working days.

Q: If I’m having a heart-related problem, whom should I call, Northeast Cardiology Associates or my regular doctor?

A: If your problem is urgent or if you think you could be having a heart attack, seek emergency help immediately by dialing 911. If you have a question related to your cardiac condition, feel free to call our offices. General health questions should be directed to your primary care physician.
